Central Station Monitoring Service
A central station monitor is a company that undertakes to monitor an alarm system at all times of the day and night. If a problem is reported by the alarm system , the company will immediately examine it and decide upon the appropriate course of action. This may involve contacting the designated ‘key holder’ for the system, or in more serious cases it may involve calling the emergency services (e.g. fire service or police). Generally, the emergency services will not be called unless two or more independent sensors are indicating the same type of problem.
There are many central station monitoring companies, but the services they provide are broadly similar. Typically a customer will subscribe to the service for a period of one or more years. Station monitoring is more effective than (say) email or SMS notification, because the provider has a staff dedicated to monitoring 24x7 and has a defined set of procedures for dealing with any circumstance that an alarm system may indicate.
