Station Monitoring Link
Not every alarm system will include automated station monitoring, but this is available as a subscription service. A telephone or broadband communications link allows alarm or contingency information to be sent to a dedicated 24x7 monitoring agency (see Central station monitoring).
It is important that the monitoring link is available and working at all times, so it is advisable to have more than one type of link. A typical modern installation will use Internet Protocol (IP) monitoring as the primary link, with a GSM/GPRS mobile phone link as a backup. This will allow as many as 600 different messages to be sent to the central station monitor.
