Media Players
Possibly one of the fastest growing areas of home cinema is that of media players. A media player is a device that hosts software for converting video and/or audio content into a form that can be sent to an end device such as a television, computer monitor or sound system. As video and audio content now comes from such a diverse range of sources, it is important that players can accommodate both stored and streaming media in a variety of formats.
It is the sheer abundance of content formats - both open and proprietary - that now makes the development of media servers so challenging. Whether it is music from an MP3 player, video ripped from a DVD or Blu-ray disk, or a flash file from a website, we all want the flexibility to choose content on a whim and to direct it to wherever we choose.
